Ice fishing in Vermont is more than a way to break cabin fever! It’s a fun way to enjoy Vermont's scenery & taste some of the fine fishing opportunities we have here in the Champlain Valley! Our trips are great for families, novice to expert, young and old alike! Getting out on the “Hardwater” is a tradition that many Vermonter's enjoy each winter, we here at 3rd Alarm Charters have been enjoying the winter splendor for over 30 years!
We primarily fish the waters of Addison & Rutland county beginning in Late December, right into late March. Ice conditions can vary greatly from each body of water due to size & elevation. Most bodies of water are as easy drive from the Killington & Okemo areas, but if you’re anywhere from Middlebury to Burlington or the northern ski areas, give us a shout as we can get you out on the Ice!
We also offer trips on Lake Champlain, generally from mid-January to early March, in varying locations from the south end, mid lake & the Champlain Islands. We employ both jigging techniques, as well as tip ups, giving our guests the chance to taste a little of everything that each body of water offers. Capt. Matt & his son Logan love teaching customers the knowledge that they have built about Vermont's waters & give you the best shot at putting some fish up on the Ice.
Every body of water is a little different in its structure and depths, but we have the tackle to put you in the right location to keep action going! Panfish such as Perch, Bluegill & Crappie can be caught on light tackle, while Bass, Northern Pike, Pickerel and even Trout or Walleye can be caught with live bait on tip ups!
We provide all bait & tackle, as well heated ice shelter to keep you out of the wind & cold and a place to warm your fingers or enjoy a cup of hot chocolate! The only thing you need to bring is warm cloths & boots and we provide the rest!
Any one over the age of 15 will need a Vermont Fishing License, which can be purchased online at Vermont Fish and Wildlife! Bring a camera as we strongly encourage C.P.R. (catch, photo & release!). Folks are welcome to take home some fish for dinner, but we do not provide fish cleaning services during the winter.
Skiing & Snowmobiling are certainly top sports that draw many to our beautiful state in the winter, but what a way to try something different while in Vermont than on the Hardwater with us at 3rd Alarm Charters! Week days can be less crowded then week days and sometimes better fishing, give us a shout to see what's biting and get your trip booked today!
